Clumber Spaniel

The Clumber Spaniel, a calm and distinguished sporting companion once favoured by royalty, is the largest of the flushing spaniels. For those willing to manage some shedding and drooling, the friendly Clumber makes a delightful and well-mannered housemate.

These robust shooting dogs are heavily built, with a long, low frame and a broad head. They stand between 17 and 20 inches tall, with females weighing around 55 pounds and males reaching up to 85 pounds.

Designed to navigate dense terrain, Clumbers move with an easy and smooth gait despite their stocky build.

Their thick, white coat is accented with occasional lemon or orange markings.

At home, Clumber Spaniels are sweet-natured and relaxed, but their strong hunting instincts make them tenacious trackers when on a scent.

Intelligent and eager to please, they respond well to training. While they may be reserved around strangers, Clumbers are generally friendly and tend to bark only when necessary, making them less effective as watchdogs.

They enjoy activities like swimming and fetching, and are great companions for children, thanks to their sturdy and playful nature.
