The English Toy Spaniel has existed for centuries and has always been highly favored by both the English and Scottish royal courts. Most notably Mary, Queen of Scots, Charles I and Charles II were known to be incredibly fanatical about the English Toy Spaniel breed – in fact the breed’s nickname of ‘Charles’ is actually in reference to both Charles I and Charles II! It is recorded within history that both Charles I and Mary, Queen of Scots were actually accompanied to their executions by their English Toy Spaniel.
